Charli XCX’s original “BRAT” album took social media by storm, captivating listeners with its unapologetic energy and rawness. So, when the deluxe version, cheekily titled “Brat and it’s the same but there’s three more songs so it’s not” dropped, expectations were sky-high. The cover art and title alone sparked a flurry of reactions on Instagram and X, formerly known as Twitter, with fans reveling in the playful irreverence that has become a hallmark of Charli’s brand.
This deluxe edition is entirely self explanatory: it’s the original album plus three new tracks. But don’t let the simplicity fool you—“Hello Goodbye,” “Guess” and “Spring Breakers” are anything but filler. Each track seamlessly extends the chaotic brilliance of the original 15 songs, while carving out their own space in the album’s narrative.
“Spring Breakers,” in particular, stands out as a personal favorite. It perfectly captures the essence of what made “BRAT” so captivating in the first place, with lyrics that are just as wild, bold and unforgettable as the beats that drive them. In the song, Charli plays the character of a reckless, law-breaking pyromaniac who is just trying to have a little fun. She sings of pretty cars, hating everyone around her and finding her best lighting in the reds and blues of police sirens.
These three new tracks are more than just bonus content, they are the icing on the already delectable cake. “Guess” and “Spring Breakers” have easily made their way to be my favorites from the entire album, as they amplify the fiery, unapologetic spirit of “BRAT” to new heights.
