This new school year brings a variety of ways for people on campus to relax their minds while being physically active, especially compared to the 2023-2024 school year, when students had to share a gym with Spring Branch Middle School and had a small football field as an outdoor area.
They have been surprised with the new facilities as they bring a change in scenery compared to last year.
“It feels great,” senior Oluwaseun Olufemi said. “We get to have new energy going, and it will be a good thing for kids to spend time outside conversing and making new friends.”
A new gym, basketball and walking path are some of the new areas that students, like Olufemi, enjoy during club Fridays. Future engagements like Pickleball are coming along when the outdoor portion is finished.
“It’s different from other schools,” Olufemi said. “It helps with student attitude
and emotion by having the thought ‘I can do something with friends.”
Athletic Club sponsor Mrs. Little, emphasizes that the gym and the new exercises offered leave plenty of options for physical activity.
“There are more opportunities for activities for students,” Little said. “Like a gaga ball pit outside providing a mental relief for students to play outside, and the benefit of more space around campus outside and inside is a positive too.
There have also been talks of new small team additions coming to the school, aimed to support the experiences of Hill Country’s students and families.
“Some future additions being talked about include wrestling, clubs sponsored by the community, cross-country, powerlifting, and tennis as a possibility, too,” Little said.
The school’s progress to expand the athletic workouts and future potential recreational programs aims to meet the wants of its student body.
“These new areas contribute to the overall space and comfort of the school not being too big or too small, accommodating all current and future students,” said Little.
