HCCPHS has the first Spanish Honor Society, marking it as the first in the district. Being the first-ever Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica in Comal is a tremendous achievement. Almost like NHS, SHH’s purpose is to recognize the high achievement of high school students in the Hispanic languages and promote their interest in Hispanic studies.

“I feel very nervous because it is the first time we are doing this program,” Spanish teacher Mrs. Cruz-Torres said. “I believe that with the help of the students, teachers, and the principal along the way, I think I will be able to make it through.”

Mrs. Cruz learned about this program through the Advanced Placement courses she took last summer. After researching what the program was about, she was inspired to start the SHH program here in Comal.

“I want this program to be created here in Comal to give Hispanic students the opportunity, although all students who meet the requirements can participate,” Cruz-Torres said.

The induction ceremony was on October 20th and the chosen students were recognized as official members.
