After years of being a standout, Parker Young is making the big move from Texas to Colorado. He is going to Colorado School of Mines to pursue a major in computer science and focus on data science.
“He’s going to do fantastic,” Young’s former physics teacher Mr. Muenich said. “He’s very intelligent and has an amazing work ethic. I’m ecstatic he’s going.”
Being a part of the first graduating class and getting to experience this school with a lot of ups and downs taught him lessons outside of just standard academics.
“My experience at this high school has been enriching,” Young said. “This school has made me more understanding of many things, going here really helped me develop my soft skills, like presenting.”
After graduating high school it is the time to find who you are and explore all things you haven’t had time to do. Young hopes to have a chance to experience new things and rediscover old ones.
“Traveling is something I really hope to be doing as an adult, I really love it,” Young said.
“But I hope to get into my hobbies that I have had less time for as I have been in high school.”
Thinking back to his high school years, Young feels recognition is one of his most memorable experiences.
“When you get the first hint of success it is really amazing,” Young said.
Everyone wants to be known for something and leave something behind. Young wants to make sure the kids in the classes below him can do more than him and that he makes sure he sets them up for success.
“I hope to leave behind some things that will help the kids below me do better than I have,” Young said.
If there is anything Young regrets, it’s not having the confidence to start taking risks and chances earlier in his high school career.
“I would tell my younger self to stop waiting and start doing,” he said. “You can’t wait for it to hit you in the face”
