Opinion: Josh Allen or Jalen Hurts For MVP?

Levi Tapia

This NFL season has been great so far. There have been electrifying games, close wins, and close losses. This has affected the run for MVP and the playoffs. The ultimate question is who will win MVP this season?

Last season, Aaron Rodgers, the Quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, won the MVP award for 2021. Rodgers had a stellar year in 2021, having over 4,000 passing yards, 70% completion rates and 48 touchdown passes. Josh Allen is the starting Quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, is about to pass 3,000 passing yards this season, and we are only at week 13. He is bound to surpass 5,000 passing yards this season. Allen has led the Bills to beat some of the best teams in the NFL this season, like the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens. The Bills have relied on the passing game, as they do not have a productive running offense. This may affect them later on, as they are bound to make it to the playoffs. The Bills have a bright future ahead of them with this young team and stellar coaching staff. There is no doubt Allen is one of the top quarterbacks in the league as of now and will win MVP this season.

Jalen Hurts plays for the Philadelphia Eagles, one of the top teams in the NFL. They are 11-1 as of now, which is the best record in the NFL. Their offense is stellar; they have great receivers, like A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Their offensive line is one of the best in the NFL, led by Hurts, who has solidified himself as the franchise Quarterback. He can control the offense, makes the right throws and the right decisions.  In 2021, Hurts carried the Eagles to the playoffs where they lost against the defending Super Bowl champions, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This offseason, Howie Roseman, the General Manager of the Eagles, went to work and traded for several great offensive and defensive players. This has dramatically helped them become a very successful team with high expectations. They are bound to make the playoffs and can even make it to the Super Bowl if they keep playing as they have been. Hurts is one of the most promising quarterbacks and is one of the front runners to win MVP, Hurts will not win MVP, but will be second runner-up to the award.

Hurts and Allen have had great seasons, but it all comes down to the playoffs. Allen is the better player because he isn’t afraid to run the ball or throw the ball in tight spaces. He puts his body on the line to win, and as seen in many games. He goes straight at defenders to gain more yards. Overall, they are both great players with great careers ahead of them, they have both proved they can compete and win at the highest level.
