During the late weeks of November, families and friends sit down to eat all around the nation to celebrate a time of thankfulness. In preparation for the holiday months, students are excited to binge favorite shows, create seasonal items and express gratitude into the lives of others.
“In preparation for Thanksgiving, usually I just trade out all my clothes for the autumnal ones,” freshman Aislin Emerson said. “And, of course, the mandatory binge of ‘Gilmore Girls’ is a necessity.”
Thanksgiving, like many other holidays, has non-negotiable traditions crafted and passed down throughout families and friends.
“I usually go to my grandparents’ or father’s house for Thanksgiving,” junior Rady Torres said. “I love it as my family is amazing and I love being around them.”
One of the most special parts of the holidays is getting together with friends and family members to celebrate and create memories together, whether the good or the bad.
“I don’t get to see my family often because they live further away from me in Mexico and California,” sophomore Abigail Aguirre said. “For Thanksgiving, we get together and we pray and then we eat.”
In a modern society, many people overlook the privilege of education, but on campus, many students express appreciation toward the ability to attend school regularly.
“I am thankful for being able to go to Hill Country College Preparatory High School, my amazing teachers I have and the friends I have made while here,” Emerson said.
Parents haven’t gone unnoticed either, with several students recognizing family love as a source of gratitude this season.
“I’m thankful for my health, my faith and my family and friends,” Aguirre said. “They helped me get to where I am today and helped me become the person I am.”
When people gather to celebrate Thanksgiving, one of the most common traditions across the nation is to create a potluck of food.
“For Thanksgiving, we all go to one of my family’s houses and bring a dish we are known for,” Aguirre said.
Some families and friends get together, bringing an abundance of food together, while others binge Lorelai and Rory Gilmore with their favorite people. Each tradition started purely because one person decided that their surroundings were worth celebrating.
Every person has the choice to be grateful, even if it is just for one good person or idea in life.
